Regional leaders, Gulf States condemn shooting incident, express solidarity

Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, and Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Iraq on Wednesday reviewed, in a phone call, the growing relations between the two countries.

They also touched on some developments and underlined the two countries’ consistent visions that back all means of maintaining regional and global security, stability and peace.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Iraq expressed the solidarity of his country with Oman in regard to the shooting incident that took place in the vicinity of a mosque in Al Wadi Al Kabir area in Muscat. He also extended Iraq’s condolences over the demise of some civilians and the martyrdom of a police serviceman.

Meanwhile, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister also received a phone call from Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan.

The Jordanian official expressed his country’s solidarity with Oman on the shooting incident which took place in Al Wadi Al Kabir. He also extended his country’s condolences to Oman on the demise of some civilians and the martyrdom of a police serviceman.

During the call, the two ministers underscored the distinguished relations between Oman and Jordan. They also underlined the ongoing fruitful cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Gulf Arab states and Egypt have also condemned a deadly shooting in Oman.

The United Arab Emirates expressed its “strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence”.

A foreign ministry statement said the attack “undermines security and stability, and endangers” the lives of Omanis.

Bahrain’s foreign ministry called the shooting a “heinous attack that goes against all religious and moral values and aims to destabilise the security and stability of Oman”.

The secretary general of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, Jasem al Budaiwi, “affirmed the full support and solidarity of GCC countries” with their fellow member states.

Saudi Arabia praised “the speed and efficiency” with which Omani authorities dealt with the shooting.

Egypt expressed its condemnation of a shooting attack that took place in Al Wadi Al Kabir. Posting on hX account, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said Egypt stands by the Sultanate of Oman at this critical time. The spokesman wished a speedy recovery for the wounded.

The Arab League also condemned the shooting incident. The Arab League affirmed its solidarity with the Sultanate of Oman’s actions to maintain its security and stability. It also expressed sincere condolences to the Omani government, people, and the families of the victims and wished the injured a full and speedy recovery.
