Oman Flour Mills Company (OFM), in coordination with the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, announced the opening of registration for interested farmers to sell their local wheat crops to the company for the next season 2024/2025.
The registration process, covering farmers across across the Governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, will remain open until October 31, 2024. The link to register is available on the website: www.omanibur.com
This initiative comes within the framework of OFM’s plans to strengthen the food security system and encourage farmers to grow wheat in Oman.
OFM Company annually purchases Omani wheat crop from the local farmers to contribute to developing Omani wheat and introducing it to the local and regional markets as an Omani product.
OFM urged farmers to adhere to the quality standards in producing and harvesting the crop. The company supports farmers by purchasing different varieties of Omani wheat through the wheat purchase subsidy program in cooperation with the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources, in order to expand cultivation of the crop locally, as well as contribute to develop Omani wheat products (Omani Bur).
The average procurement the Omani local wheat crop by OFM in 2024 reached 10,000 metric tonnes, recording a growth by 100%, compared to 2023. Around 95 farmers sold their crop to OFM in 2024, up from 65 in 2023, representing an increase of 45%.
The increase in the quantity of local wheat sold to OFM in this season reflects the level of demand for Omani wheat, which is highly accepted by the consumers in the local and regional markets due to its high quality as an Omani national product.
