The latest data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) reveals a modest expansion in Oman’s private sector workforce, with the number of foreign workers rising by 0.2% in November 2023.
This brings the total expat workforce to 1,738,724, highlighting the country’s continued reliance on global talent to fuel economic activity.
The overall private sector employment landscape witnessed a similar trend, with a total of 1,997,192 workers registered as of November 2023.
While this represents a marginal increase, it underscores the ongoing efforts to bolster employment opportunities within the Omani economy. Notably, Omani nationals accounted for 274,894 of the total workforce, translating to a 16% share in the private sector.
Delving deeper into the expatriate demographics, Bangladeshis emerged as the most prominent nationality within the private sector workforce, with 725,872 Bangladeshi workers holding positions across various industries.
Following closely behind were Indian nationals at 527,108, and Pakistani nationals at 289,268, showcasing Oman’s appeal to a diverse talent pool across South Asia.
This uptick in foreign worker numbers aligns with the government’s strategic vision to attract foreign investment and diversify the economy.
By creating a conducive business environment and actively seeking skilled professionals internationally, Oman is positioning itself as a competitive destination for global companies seeking reliable and cost-effective human capital.
